Eagle Forum to Host Richfield Village Trustee Candidate Forum

Richfield: Eagle Forum of Wisconsin-Washington County will host a candidate forum for Richfield Village Trustees on Thursday, March 31, at 7:00 p.m.

The event will be held at Richfield Elementary School, 3117 State Hwy. 167.

The format will include an introductory statement by each candidate. Candidates will take turns answering questions and will be allowed conclusion time.

Trustee candidates for the village of Richfield are Rock Brandner (I), Bill Collins (I), Reid Snedaker, and Sandy Voss.

The moderator will be State Representative Don Pridemore.  Pridemore is a 1977 graduate of Marquette University, a former electronics researcher and engineer, and an amateur chili judge. A veteran from the Vietnam Era, he served in the Air Force from 1965-1969. He is a former president of the Hartford Area Taxpayer Association, a member of the Hartford Lions, and Greater Hartford Optimists, as well as the American Legion, VFW, and the NRA. In the past he has served as assistant scout master for Boy Scout Troop 741, and state director for Wisconsin Citizens for Legal Reform, and a member of the Erin Park Board since 1995. In 2004, he was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly, and has been unopposed for the last two elections.

Eagle Forum is offering this event as a community service to the greater Washington County area. The forum will be videotaped and shared via the Eagle Forum website at www.eagleforumwc.blogspot.com for later viewing.

No direct debate will be permitted, and no questions will be taken from the floor.

The event is free and open to the public.

RICHFIELD VILLAGE TRUSTEE FORUM TURNS OUT CROWD

CANDIDATE REID SNEDAKER RECEIVES HEARTY SUPPORT AT EAGLE FORUM EVENT

Richfield: Richfield Village Trustee Candidate Reid Snedaker was in the hot seat at the Richfield Elementary School Wednesday night sponsored by Eagle Forum of Wisconsin-Washington County Chapter.  Randy Melchert, political analyst and past Wisconsin State Assembly candidate, moderated the event.  During opening remarks, Snedaker described himself as a  “very staunch conservative, both fiscally and socially.”

With the recall election on this coming Tuesday, Snedaker took advantage of the opportunity and shared views with an audience of nearly 80. Topics included the controversial Neighborhood Activity Center, sewer and water services for Richfield, and the Farmland Preservation Program. Incumbent Trustee Rock Brandford was unable to attend, citing a conflict in his schedule.

Snedaker said it was a difficult decision to run for village trustee. “Those who know me” would understand his strong determination for less government interference in the village he calls home.  When asked when sewer and water should become part of the Village of Richfield infrastructure, Snedaker soundly stated “never,” and clarified that the village needs to remain a “country” entity.  “It’s important that we protect your personal property rights - that you can use your property, in general, as you see fit,” Snedaker said.

Commenting on the touchy issue of the Neighborhood Activity Center, Snedaker says that it will create a major traffic hazard, but “more importantly, it is out of character for the Village of Richfield - that does not fit.”

One attendee stated after the forum that her family had moved to Richfield from West Allis because of the country appeal, and that her family is opposed to changes that would bring in strip malls, gas stations and other businesses that would transform the village area into a city atmosphere.

"Forums are a great way for candidates to address important issues for their constituents," stated Ginny Maziarka, Eagle Forum of Wisconsin, Washington County president.  "We were grateful to have Randy Melchert attend as our moderator. The voters are hungry for information before the general election, and this is an excellent opportunity for candidates to share with voters why they should belong in office."

RICHFIELD CANDIDATES SHARE CONCERNS AT EAGLE FORUM EVENT

March 17, 2010

Richfield: Area candidates shared their vision of local government at a forum at the Richfield Elementary School last night. Three candidates for the Richfield village board and the Richfield Joint School Board talked to residents at the forum sponsored by Eagle Forum of Wisconsin. All candidates for were invited, and candidates unable to attend were offered the opportunity to provide literature for attendees. State Rep. Don Pridemore (R-Hartford) moderated the event.

Michael Shea, village board candidate, brought a copy of the $3 million village budget and discussed the need to prioritize expenditures. Budget approval would need to be "examined under a microscope." Shea stated he was running because he "didn't like what's going on in the village." Responding to a question regarding upholding integrity on the village board, Shea said one should "live on your morals and whether your word is any good." His motto is "tell the truth or get out." As for TIF districts, Shea adamantly proclaimed, "forget it" and "It's a big fat failure at the expense of taxpayers."

Unemployment was addressed and Shea felt that re-examining municipal contracts to "see what is being done inefficiently" was the key. His goal as village trustee would be to outsource services to local companies. A former police officer of 29.5 years, Shea feels that [we] "under-utilize people in our jails."

A controversial issue within the village of Richfield is the movement of the public comment period to the end of village board meetings. Shea stated his opposition to this decision by the village board and felt that "the public that pays the salaries of these people should be the first ones up" at the meetings.

As to why he would be the best candidate for the trustee position, Shea regarded the fact that he was the only trustee candidate to clear his calendar for tonight's forum. "You have to demonstrate to people that you're willing to tackle the problems."

Howard Wolf and Blair Rogacki, both Richfield school board candidates, agreed on a number of hot-topic issues, such as parental consent prior to Comprehensive Sex Education classes and keeping social justice curriculum out of primary education. Wolf said schools should be "molding young minds with facts, not indoctrinating with those who are opining."

School funding has raised concerns among taxpayers who are already strapped during tough economic times. Wolf explained "We only tax for what we need." Both candidates, again, cited the lack of financial assistance from the government. Rogacki, labeling himself a fiscal conservative, stated the formula was basically "you have a pot of money available to spend and services that need to be provided. You prioritize and do what you can." Wolf would like to "mentor new board members" during his tenure so that all his work "won't be for naught."

"This was a great opportunity to give taxpayers the chance to hear directly from the candidates," stated Ginny Maziarka, Eagle Forum of Wisconsin, Washington County president. "We were thrilled to have Rep. Pridemore attend as our moderator. There is a real need for one-on-one time with candidates before the general election, to share with voters why they should belong in office."

Richfield, WI, March 13, 2010: Washington County Eagle Forum will host a forum for candidates for Richfield Board of Trustees and School Board candidates on March 17, at 7:00 p.m.

The event will be held at the Richfield Elementary School, 3117 Holy Hill Road, Richfield. Rep. Don Pridemore (R), 99th District, will be moderating the forum.

The format will include an introductory statement by each candidate. Candidates will take turns answering pre-selected questions and will have time for a final statement.

"Voters appreciate the opportunity to hear the viewpoints of the candidates running for the County Board. This forum will educate voters on the role their supervisors play in Washington County, the philosophy of candidates, and ensure that voters make an informed decision on April 6th," said Ginny Maziarka, President of Eagle Forum of Washington County.

Maziarka invites Washington County/Richfield residents with questions for County Supervisor candidates to forward them to Eagle Forum for possible inclusion in the debate at eagleforumwc@gmail.com no later than March 16.
