SUPREME COURT ISSUES UNANIMOUS DECISION FAVORING RELIGIOUS FREEDOM. Chief Justice Roberts wrote the unanimous decision stating: the "authority to select and control who will minister to the faithful is the church's alone." If an antidiscrimination lawsuit attempts to interfere with such matters, the First Amendment does not permit it to proceed."USAToday.com, 1-11-12.

WHEN WILL A NOMINEE BE CHOSEN? Not until April, according to some estimates. The new RNC rules allow for 2,286 delegates to be sent to the Republican National Convention; therefore, it will take 1,143 delegate votes to win the nomination. Several states were penalized half their delegates for holding their primaries too early: NH, SC, FL, MI and AZ. Until April, there will not be enough delegate votes to nominate a candidate. States awarding delegates proportionally will likely split delegates making it even less likely that any candidate can lock up the nomination earlier, as long as two or more remain in the race.

Walker Support in Baraboo - Thanks to PETE

This is Pete. He's standing for Governor Walker in Baraboo today. He spent time in Portage and other areas, as well. Just doing what he does best. Today he has received honks, thumbs up, people stopping by to say hello and hoping they could sign a support letter or something to that effect. The overall response has been fantastic. All Pete did was park his truck in plain sight with his banner of support. We need more people like Pete. :-)

National Popular Vote = Bad Idea

Moving quietly under cover of presidential debates and the enormous publicity given to the race for the Republican nomination is a plan to change how U.S. Presidents are elected. It would bypass the procedure spelled out in the U.S. Constitution which has been used successfully for over two centuries.

NPV is an attempt to achieve the longtime liberal goal of getting rid of the Electoral College. Instead of proposing an amendment that would first need to be passed by Congress and then ratified by three-fourths of the states (38), NPV is a scheme to deviously bypass the grand design of our U.S. Constitution

People who pretend that the Electoral College system is undemocratic are not only ignorant of the history and purposes of the U.S. Constitution, but they probably don't even understand baseball. Basing the election on a plurality of the popular vote while ignoring the states would be like the New York Yankees claiming they won the 1960 World Series because they outscored the Pirates in runs 55-27 and in hits 91-60. Yet, the Pirates fairly won that World Series, 4 games to 3, and no one challenges their victory.

Why the Super Committee Failed - HENSARLING

The Wall Street Journal, Nov 22 - All now know that the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction has failed to reach an agreement. While there will still be $1.2 trillion of spending cuts as guaranteed under the Budget Control Act, we regrettably missed a historic opportunity to lift the burden of debt and help spur economic growth and job creation. Americans deserve an explanation.....Unfortunately, the committee's challenge was made more difficult by President Obama. Since the committee was formed, he has demanded more stimulus spending and issued a veto threat against any proposed committee solution to the spending problem that was not coupled with a massive tax increase.

Despite the president's disappointing lack of leadership, I believe my co-chair, Sen. Patty Murray, and every Democrat acted with honor and integrity and negotiated in good faith to the end. It was, of course, difficult to negotiate with six Democrats who, as Democratic committee member Jim Clyburn said on Nov. 13, "never coalesced around a plan" themselves. But I believe this failure was not due to lack of effort or commitment.

Ultimately, the committee did not succeed because we could not bridge the gap between two dramatically competing visions of the role government should play in a free society, the proper purpose and design of the social safety net, and the fundamentals of job creation and economic growth.

A great opportunity has been missed, but America's fate will not be sealed by the failure of a temporary congressional committee. Spending cuts will begin anyway in 2013, but in a manner many of us, including our secretary of defense, believe could fundamentally harm our national security. I am committed to ensuring that full deficit reduction is realized, but Congress must work to achieve these savings in a more sensible manner that does not make us less safe.

As Winston Churchill said, "Americans can always be trusted to do the right thing, once all other possibilities have been exhausted." Despite my disappointment with the committee's setback, I remain confident that we will yet again prove Churchill right.

The World Trade Organization just ruled against the United States again. A "dispute resolution panel" of WTO representatives from Pakistan, Portugal and Switzerland ruled that U.S. laws requiring Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) violate free trade.

It's time for the United States to wave goodbye to this impertinent New World Order bunch of bureaucrats in Geneva (a sort of Economic United Nations) who think they can dictate our trade policies. That's unconstitutional anyway because the U.S. Constitution specifically gives Congress the power "to regulate commerce with foreign nations."

A federal judge ruled in July that Dixie County (a rural county in Florida) has 30 days to remove a granite monument of the Ten Commandments from the steps of the county courthouse in Cross City, where it has sat since 2006. Of course, this was the result of a suit by the ACLU, charging that the monument is a violation of separation of church and state. Dixie County officials said there never has been a single negative comment about the monument from anyone living in the community. The Ledger.com, 7-18-11.

EAGLE FORUM HOLDS NATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

Citizens Gather from Across the CountryPhyllis Schlafly will host the 40th annual Eagle Council on September 16-18, at Arlington, Virginia at the Crystal Gateway Marriott. Some 250 leaders from 50 states are expected to attend. Eagle Council XL opens at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 16 and ends at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 18.

Headline speakers will include Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, and Phyllis Schlafly, president and founder of Eagle Forum. Saturday will feature in-depth sessions on integrating the latest technologies into winning campaigns, the Republican presidential nominating process, school tax and bond elections, effective pro-life legislation, preeminence of American law, Agenda 21, Voter Registration Reform, and saving the Electoral College.

The Fulltime Homemaker Award, to recognize the high value of motherhood and personal sacrifice, will be presented on Saturday evening to Teiro Cuccinelli, wife of Ken Cuccinelli.

KOMEN FOR THE CURE AFFILIATES GAVE OVER $569,000 TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD. A study by the American Life League reveals that Komen for the Cure foundation, a breast cancer charity, has 18 affiliates that gave over $569,000 to Planned Parenthood in 2010. A 2008 Annual Report from Planned Parenthood shows its breast cancer services decreased by 4% and abortion procedures increased by 6%. Komen affiliates contributed about $3.3 million to Planned Parenthood from 2004-2009. Several Catholic Bishops have instructed churches and schools they oversee not to fundraise for Komen for the Cure because of its ties to Planned Parenthood; the latest includes Bishop Frederick F. Elementary school curriculum isn't just about the three R's any more. Reading, 'Riting and 'Rithmetic now have to make time for lessons in gender diversity and for nosy questionnaires that lead kids into teen sex and illegal drug usage.

Students in all grades at Oakland, California's Redwood Heights Elementary School were given two days of gender diversity lessons designed to teach them that gender is not confined to the "binary concept" of two options. The lessons promoted "gender neutrality," the concept that no distinctions between male and female should be legally allowed.

The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), now up for reauthorization, is in major need of revision. Its billion-dollar-a-year price tag spent by the radical feminists to pursue their ideology and goals (known as feminist pork) make it an embarrassment to Members of Congress who voted for it.For 30 years, the feminists have been pretending that their goal is to abolish all sex discrimination, eliminating all gender differences no matter how reasonable. When it comes to domestic violence, however, feminist dogma preaches that there is an innate gender difference: men are naturally batterers and women are naturally victims (i.e., gender profiling).
Starting with its title, VAWA is just about as sex discriminatory as legislation can get. It is written and implemented to oppose the abuse of women and to punish men.

July 5, 2011 Our friends at the Center for Military Readiness just informed us that one of our favorite Members of Congress, Virginia Foxx (R-NC), has proposed an amendment to ensure that defense dollars are not used to violate the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). Please urge your Congressman to support this effort. In a hasty effort to implement the reversal of the 1993 law prohibiting homosexuals from openly serving in the military, often called “don’t ask, don’t tell,” which Congress approved during the lame duck session last December, the Navy Chief of Chaplains issued a memorandum stating that chaplains could perform same sex marriages once the ban was lifted. However, after traditional marriage defenders and concerned citizens like you protested this potential violation of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), the Navy reversed its position. Congresswoman Foxx and her co-sponsor Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN) plan to offer this language as a limiting amendment to the House Defense Appropriations Bill, H.R. 2219, which will be considered on the House floor tomorrow:*“No funds under the act may be used for activities in contravention of Public Law 104-199, the Defense of Marriage Act.”* As you can see, the Foxx-Burton Amendment to the Defense Appropriations Bill is clean and simple but all-encompassing. The legislation simply expresses the intent of Congress that in all military policies, regulations, programs, and matters involving benefits, funds may not be used for activities in contravention of the Defense of Marriage Act. Rep. Foxx will offer her amendment on the floor, probably late in the day TOMORROW – Wednesday, July 6. Gay Club Denied School-Sponsored Status - Sues District

This week the West Bend School District board members voted to deny school-sponsored club status to the Gay/Straight Alliance, a militant, political homosexual club.

Just before the vote, Board member Randy Marquardt made it clear that he did not appreciate being told by the GSA attorneys that the board must approve this club or risk a lawsuit. He did not feel they were in violation of any statutes or laws. Marquardt further stated that curricular and policy ties claimed by the GSA's application were a stretch to make them fit the GSA, and he did not agree that the GSA fit the policy for a co-curricular. With that said, the three conservative board members denied the application from the GSA to obtain school sponsorship.

Much appreciation to Randy Marquardt, Tim Stepanski and Dave Weigand who stood firm in their representation of our conservative school district. The fourth conservative school board member, Bart Williams, was out of town on business, but has stated he stands in agreement with this decision.

Local attorneys, Waring Fincke and Dan Patrykus, have filed a federal lawsuit against the West Bend School District claiming discrimination.

DPI "Sex Survey" to be administered in West Bend School District

Parents in the West Bend School District (WBSD) were sent a letter advising them of the "Youth Risk Behavior Survey" that was to be administered to "selected" students. The letter does not indicate the date the survey would be administered. The letter does not state where the survey could be accessed and viewed. Parents have been asked to make a decision about their child's participation in the survey based on the District's assurance in the letter that the survey would cause "little to no harm" to their child. Students are considered "opted in" unless "opted out" as the District chose the "passive parental permission" form.

ACCESS:
Parents would only be able to have access to the survey by going in to the West Bend High School office on their own time and requesting to view it. The 2009 version could be found on the DPI (Department of Public Instruction) website. The District has since posted the 2011 survey for both middle and high schools on the WBSD website.

CONTENT:
The survey crosses personal and parental boundaries with questions that want to know:

If your child is bisexual, homosexual, heterosexual or "not sure." (on high school survey).
If your child has sex with males or females, or males and females.
If your child uses contraception when they have sex.
How many people your child has had sex with.
If your child drank or did drugs before having sex.

The survey explains that a child could become so depressed about the future that they may consider suicide, and goes on to query:

If your child has seriously attempted suicide.
If your child has made a plan to attempt suicide.
How many times your child attempted suicide in the past.

The survey is extensive and should be viewed by all parents throughout the state of Wisconsin whose children attend public schools. Taxpayers have a vested interested in the administration of this survey, which is taken during classroom time, according to the parent letter. The WB East High School principal has stated it will take a total of two hours for the classroom teacher to give this survey to students.

Education Spending Won't Create Jobs

Contrary to Obama's political rhetoric, more taxpayer spending to send more students to college will not reduce unemployment or improve the economy. It's just Obama's way of finagling the unemployment statistics by listing young people as students instead of as unemployed.

A report by the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland confirmed that when it comes to long-term unemployment, the length of unemployment is unrelated to education level. Although employment is higher for people with more years of education, the duration of unemployment is the same for all education levels.

A new phrase is now commonly included in job ads for all kinds of positions: "must be currently employed." Charts from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show remarkably parallel lines for the duration of unemployment of Americans age 25 and older who have less than a high school diploma, only a high school diploma, some college, or a college degree.

The Obama Administration continues to propagate the falsehood that solving the unemployment problem requires "more investments in education." Investment is a favorite liberal code word for more spending and higher taxes.

As globalization spread and was touted by the elites as the wave of the future, conventional wisdom was that only blue-collar manufacturing jobs would be sent overseas while college grads were safe. That assumption is now obsolete, as computers and telecommunications have made it possible to offshore the jobs of college-educated employees.

SCHLAFLY: What Students Learn and Don't Learn

If you are attending college to get teacher certification, you will probably be required to attend classes on "multicultural education." This is supposed to bring diversity to the classroom and prepare teachers to teach pupils of various ethnic or national backgrounds.

The textbooks in these courses typically include Teachers as Cultural Workers by Paulo Freire, a Brazilian socialist who preached that society is divided into oppressors and oppressed. Other required readings teach that Americans are an institutionally racist society and are designed to train teachers to create political radicals to promote "progressive" social change.

The monthly journal Education Reporter published an informative expose by a teacher who attended a conference on training teachers how to teach students what is called "social justice," a code word for a specific type of teaching that is contrary to traditional American notions of justice based on individual rights. "Social justice" teaches children that America is an unjust and oppressive society that should be changed.

Social justice materials typically include far left proposals such as acceptance of homosexuality, alternate lifestyles, radical feminism, abortion, illegal immigration, cultural relativism, and the redistribution of wealth.

Social justice is often promoted through what is called "student-directed learning" because students are supposed to "construct" their own knowledge. These words put a new spin on what was previously called "unguided learning" or "minimal guidance learning."

Common sense and hundreds of years of education tell us that anyone first needs a base of knowledge in order to know what to look for when conducting research and doing problem-solving. Instead of teaching students American history and what's great about our country, liberal policy is to have 12-and-13-year-olds "brainstorm" topics they want to talk about, which typically include marijuana, gun violence, Afghanistan, poverty, and youth culture.

More and more universities are telling incoming freshmen to read a book over the summer. One college says the purpose is to promote "a shared intellectual experience" and "campus-wide dialogue"; another college says its summer reading program "is an important first step in building a cohesive, dynamic, educational community."
However, the National Association of Scholars (NAS) issued a report called "What Do Colleges Want Students to Read Outside of Class?" that lists the books recommended by 290 colleges. These scholars found that the books are more suited to Oprah's Book Club than universities, and "rather than asking students to rise to college-level study, they shrink college-level study to the comfort zone of the average student."

The book selections are usually "short" and "emotional" and offer "little if any intellectual substance." The most popular book in 2010 was "This I Believe," a collection of essays on personal philosophies gathered by National Public Radio. The second most assigned book was "Enrique's Journey," the story of an illegal immigrant boy's trip from Honduras to the United States.

The NAS found that 70 percent of the books "promote a liberal political agenda or advance a liberal interpretation of events," and not one of the books advocated conservative political ideas. Only three books represented traditional values, and those were selected by religious colleges.

The most popular topics were multiculturalism, immigration and racism; after that came environmentalism, animal rights and food issues. On the whole, the books presented what the NAS report called "a distinctly disaffected view of American society and Western civilization."
These summer reading lists included no works of classical antiquity, Shakespeare, or any Renaissance writers. Three colleges ditched book assignments altogether and told students to watch a DVD instead.

A new study reports the dismal finding that 45 percent of college students show no significant improvement in the key measures of critical thinking, complex reasoning, and writing by the end of their sophomore year. During their prior semester, half the students did not take a single course that required 20 pages of writing, and a third did not take a single course requiring so much as 20 pages of reading per week.

Those findings are set forth in a new book, "Academically Adrift: Limited Learning on College Campuses" by sociologists Richard Arum of New York University and Josipa Roksa of the University of Virginia. They surveyed a representative sample of 24 schools.

Ohio University economist Richard Vetter reported that a majority of the increased number of college graduates are working jobs that historically have been filled by persons with less education. Over 300,000 bartenders have college degrees, and college is not an essential qualification for those jobs.

The Obama Administration claims we must graduate more college students in order to stay globally competitive, but there's no evidence this is true. If students didn't learn much in the first two years, why should we go into more debt to keep them in college more years?

VICTORY FOR SCHOOL CHOICE: SUPREME COURT REJECTS LAWSUIT CHALLENGING ARIZONA SCHOOL CHOICE STATUE. The U.S. Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the Arizona statute that provides state residents with tax credits for contributions they make to school tuition organizations. The 5-4 decision provides a road for other states to enact similar legislation. The court ruled that the program's challengers lacked a basis to sue because the program does not take money from taxpayers for government expenditures. Private citizens are free to support any organization they choose, including school tuition organizations. Any injury that the challengers may suffer is not the result of action by the government. 4-11-11, capenet.org.

EAGLE OF THE WEEK Colorado Eagle Forum leaders Jayne Schindler and Rosina Kovar were major players in the defeat of Civil Unions in Colorado's Statehouse again this year. Senate Bill 172 passed the Senate, but was narrowly defeated on a party-line vote in a House committee of 6 to 5. Both Jayne and Rosina gave testimony at the Senate and House hearings. Jayne testified on how the passage of Civil Unions would bully parents with the law if they objected to school Sex-Ed classes differentiating between heterosexual and homosexual sex acts. Rosina's testimony received many jeers and laughter as she explained God's design for sexuality and the inability of homosexual relationships to reproduce. The bill's main Senate sponsor, who is openly gay, had his domestic partner testify that Civil Unions would help them in their plight to adopt a child. "Fortunately," reports Jayne, "the emotional rancor from the numerous supporters of the bill left the Republican members of the House Judiciary Committee unmoved when they voted to retain the Colorado Constitutional Amendment from 2006 defining marriage as between one man and one woman, which was determined by a vote of the people!"

Eagle Forum to Host Richfield Village Trustee Candidate Forum

Richfield: Eagle Forum of Wisconsin-Washington County will host a candidate forum for Richfield Village Trustees on Thursday, March 31, at 7:00 p.m.

The event will be held at Richfield Elementary School, 3117 State Hwy. 167.

The format will include an introductory statement by each candidate. Candidates will take turns answering questions and will be allowed conclusion time.

Trustee candidates for the village of Richfield are Rock Brandner (I), Bill Collins (I), Reid Snedaker, and Sandy Voss.

The moderator will be State Representative Don Pridemore. Pridemore is a 1977 graduate of Marquette University, a former electronics researcher and engineer, and an amateur chili judge. A veteran from the Vietnam Era, he served in the Air Force from 1965-1969. He is a former president of the Hartford Area Taxpayer Association, a member of the Hartford Lions, and Greater Hartford Optimists, as well as the American Legion, VFW, and the NRA. In the past he has served as assistant scout master for Boy Scout Troop 741, and state director for Wisconsin Citizens for Legal Reform, and a member of the Erin Park Board since 1995. In 2004, he was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly, and has been unopposed for the last two elections.

Eagle Forum is offering this event as a community service to the greater Washington County area. The forum will be videotaped and shared via the Eagle Forum website at www.eagleforumwc.blogspot.com for later viewing.

No direct debate will be permitted, and no questions will be taken from the floor.

Legislators Aim to Expand Educational Options and Opportunity

Grothman, Jacque Offer Tax Credit Proposal for Increased Access to Independent and Religious Schools

Today, Senator Glenn Grothman (R-West Bend) and Representative Andre Jacque (R-Bellevue) announced they will be introducing legislation providing a non-refundable tax credit for religious and independent schools beginning in school year 2012-2013. The credit will start at $1,500 per year for every first grade student and $2,500 for every ninth grade student. The following year, second and tenth graders will be added to the program with additional years added each year until all students will be covered by the 2021 school year.

“With the government already subsidizing private education by up to $6,500 per year for Milwaukee residents, the proposal would offer assistance, albeit a lesser amount, for outstate parents who want an alternative to the public schools for their children,” said Grothman. “Whether their concerns are Wisconsin’s declining test scores, a radical new sex education program pushed through the Legislature last year, or public school teachers proselytizing a liberal political agenda in their schools, it is unfair not to provide a little assistance to independent-minded parents.”

“The taxpayers already provide over $12,000 per year per child in the government schools, so any parent who is persuaded to enroll their children in the private schools creates a huge tax savings for Wisconsin’s taxpayers,” said Grothman.

“As a proud supporter of charter school expansion, open enrollment for public schools, and non-public school choice it is very important to be consistent in offering families in my district, and across the state, access to the full range of educational alternatives. When it comes to educational instruction, one type doesn’t fit all,” said Representative Jacque, further noting that the proposal would not reduce state public school funding. “We should always look at enhancing our state educational offerings to benefit students,” added Jacque.

“Private school enrollment has declined in recent years in part because of the proliferation of 4-year-old kindergarten. The current budget, which allows for a further expansion of 4-year-old kindergarten despite the state’s fiscal shape, will have a further negative impact on private school enrollment,” said Grothman.

“This is a frugal and modest proposal that can make a dramatic impact. Just this week, we’ve heard a bill dedicating $7,500 in government funds to parents who send their children to charter schools,” said Jacque.

Vice President Joe Biden predicted Friday that the evolution in thinking that will permit gays to soon serve openly in the military eventually will bring about a national consensus for same-sex marriage.

Biden's comments follow those made this week by President Barack Obama.

"I think the country's evolving," he said on ABC's "Good Morning America." And I think you're going to see, you know, the next effort is probably going to be to deal with so-called DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). He said he agreed with Obama that his position in gay marriage is "evolving."

Many social conservatives, such as Eagle Forum President Phyllis Schlafly of Ladue, refuse to believe that a majority of Americans would support gay marriage. Obama's shifting position, she said, "is the story of politics: An aggressive well-funded pressure group can achieve goals contrary to what the majority of people want. Gays, she said, are already free to live together. "Nobody's stopping them from shacking up," she said. "The problem is they are trying to make us respect them, and that's an interference with what we believe."

As feared by everyone, the U.S. Senate and Harry Reid are bringing those fears to fruition and are set to destroy America’s future by taking all the private property they can with one bill, unless we act this week!

It used to be called the CLEAR (Consolidated Land, Energy, and Aquatic Resources) Act of 2010, but Mr. Reid pulled a legislative trick and substituted the CLEAR Act for a completely unrelated, bill S. 303, and now calls it the “America’s Great Outdoors Bill of 2010.”

Call your Senators today and demand they oppose S. 303 in its entirety. Demand that they oppose every section of this bill. No part of this bill is good for America’s landowners.

S. 303 was introduced and passed by the Senate in early 2009, as the “Federal Financial Assistance Management Improvement Act of 2009.” It was amended and passed in the House and sent back to the Senate for passage where it has languished until now. In a near midnight Sunday session with no one on the Senate floor, Reid asked for unanimous consent to substitute the CLEAR Act for S. 303. The President of the Senate said: “Without objection, granted,” and S. 303 was placed on the Calendar for consideration.

Fred Kelly Grant explains how Reid slyly made the switch and the devastating implications the bill has for private property rights in today’s report.

In this one maneuver, Mr. Reid used S.303 as a shell bill completely gutting it, added 1,003 pages with 108 separate land bills, and renamed it “America’s Great Outdoors Bill of 2010.”

Among the bills rolled into this amendment are 13 sections covering the National Park Service, National Wilderness Preservation System, Forest Service, Department of Interior, National Heritage Sites, BLM, Rivers and Trails, Water and Hydropower, Insular Areas, Wildlife Conservation and Water Quality Protection and Restoration, Oceans and Fisheries, Indian Homelands and Trust Land, and Miscellaneous.

This means additional wilderness, wild and scenic rivers and trails designations, the expansion of EPA authority to control ocean beaches through regulations that will adversely affect all farms and ranches, and multiple land transfers, among other significant negative implications for America.

Early estimates are that this bill will cost Americans a minimum of $18 billion dollars, and that is just the cost of the bill, not the long term loss to our local and national economies as more of America’s land is removed from productive use.

Mr. Reid is pulling out all the stops before the old Congress adjourns. We must try to stop this bill before we lose more of our land and more of our liberty.

There is no time for any member of Congress to actually consider this type of massive legislation, some of which has not even had a hearing.

Plans to offer second trimester abortions in downtown Madison have been scrapped. Nearly two years ago UW Hospital, the UW Medical Foundation, and Meriter Hospital approved plans to provide the controversial abortions at the Madison Surgery Center.

Pro-Life Wisconsin was among those who held protested, aired public service announcements and petitioned in opposition to the plans. The group applauds the decision to cancel the clinic.

“This really shows that pro-life grassroots activism works,” says Communications Director Virginia Zignego.

Reagan was a consistent stalwart booster of U.S. anti-missile defenses. He won the Cold War by standing firm on his plan to build an Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty. Obama's New START Treaty ties our hands against building anti-missile defenses to protect American lives from all the bad guys of the world. The lame duck Senate absolutely must NOT ratify this dangerous treaty.

The Senate has never voted its consent on an arms control treaty in a lame duck session, and we should not start now!

Here is a list of reasons the New START treaty should not be ratified, provided by the Center for Security Policy:

The treaty deals with only SOME of Russia’s nuclear threats and none of the world’s others, like China, North Korea, Iran and Venezuela.
The Treaty imposes limits on missile defense, despite the Obama Administration’s insistence it does not.
There is no claim that we need the Treaty urgently to monitor Russian compliance. We should follow Ronald Reagan’s wise mantra, “trust but verify.” Yet, Missouri Senator Kit Bond, the ranking member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, has warned the treaty is not verifiable.
Requiring the three newly seated Senators to vote on the Treaty during the lame-duck session will not allow them enough time to thoroughly research the treaty in order to fulfill their Constitutional duty to advise and consent to treaties.
The Treaty will be implemented on the watch of newly elected Senators. Eleven of them have asked to have a say in its ratification. Consideration should be deferred until they take office, new and more balanced hearings can be held and there is an opportunity for improvements to this accord.

On Election Day, Americans spoke out against the radical liberal agenda in Washington, D.C. Voters demanded a Congress that will strengthen the economy and create more jobs.

But, the liberal left is still pandering to feminists and trial attorneys at the expense of American jobs by bringing the so-called “Paycheck Fairness Act” to a vote during the Lame Duck Session that begins Monday, November 15th.

The “Paycheck Fairness Act” would stifle job creation, send existing American jobs overseas, and burden employers with expensive paperwork and frivolous lawsuits.

Your calls are urgently needed to stop the feminists from causing unemployment rates to rise even higher!

Originally introduced by Hillary Clinton during her time in the Senate, and reintroduced by Sen. Harry Reid, the Paycheck Fairness Act (S. 3772)(PFA) would amend the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 and the Equal Pay Act of 1963 (EPA) in the following ways:

Allows for unlimited compensatory and punitive damages to be granted, even without proof of intent to discriminate. Currently, an employer must be found to have intentionally engaged in discriminatory practices in order for an employee to receive monetary compensation, and even then, the employee is entitled only to back pay. The provision in the PFA is unacceptable and unnecessary, as damages are already available under Title VII for pay discrimination.
Changes the “establishment” requirement. The EPA currently requires that employees whose pay is being compared must work in the same physical place of business. The PFA would amend the word “establishment” to mean workplaces in the same county or political district. It would also invite the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to develop “rules or guidance” to define the term more broadly. This leaves the door open for the EEOC to compare a woman’s job in a rural area to a man’s job in an urban area that has a much higher cost of living, which would drive up the cost of employing the woman in the rural lower cost area. Such increase in employment costs would result in fewer people being employed, and would also result in employers shipping jobs overseas.
Replaces a successful pay discrimination-determining system with a proven failed system. The PFA would invalidate the successful, Supreme Court-endorsed system for determining whether pay discrimination has occurred (known as the Interpretative Standards for Systemic Compensation Discrimination), and would replace it with the highly inaccurate Equal Opportunity Survey, which has found true discriminators to be non-discriminators 93 percent of the time.
Increases the numbers in class-action suits. Under EPA, if an employee wants to participate in a class-action suit against his employer, he must affirmatively decide to participate in the suit. The PFA would automatically include employees in class-action suits, unless they affirmatively opt out. This change would result in booming business for trial attorneys, and huge costs to employers, who may decide to ship jobs overseas to avoid such costs altogether.

In addition to these changes, the PFA would institute a system of “comparable worth” effectively allowing judges, juries and unelected bureaucrats to set employees’ wages, instead of employers. Thus, an employee’s compensation level would be based on some vague notion of his “worth,” instead of on concrete factors like education, experience, time in the labor force, and hours worked per week. The PFA would also cause employers to avoid hiring women in low-paying positions, since the employers may then become targets for burdensome lawsuits. This trend would result in even higher unemployment for low-skilled women, potentially increasing the number of families dependent on government assistance.

President Obama has called the PFA a “common-sense bill.” The truth is, this bill makes no sense during good economic times, and would only add insult to injury now, when unemployment is near double-digits nationwide.

Elaine Chao, Secretary of Labor under President George W. Bush, called the PFA a “job killing, trial attorney bonanza,” and said employers potentially would see female applicants as instigators of lawsuits, instead of contributors to productivity.

Take Action

The House of Representatives has already passed the Paycheck Fairness Act, and President Obama has said that he will sign the bill into law if the Senate passes it. The Senate vote is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, November 17, so call your Senator and tell him or her to vote NO on S. 3772 the so-called “Paycheck Fairness Act!”

New START Treaty — One of Eagle Forum’s greatest concerns is that liberals in the Senate will set a dangerous precedent by attempting to ratify the new START Treaty during the lame duck session. Eagle Forum was among 33 conservative groups who joined in a memo outlining the concerns with the new START treaty, and urged Congress to refrain from considering it during the lame duck session. Also, thirteen former U.S. Senators sent a letter to Senate Leaders Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell urging them not to consider the treaty during the lame duck session.

SCHLAFLY: Government Trampling on Constitutional Rights of Parents

When the liberals and the feminists, including Hillary Clinton, began saying the "village" should raise the child, most people recognized village as a metaphor for government. We're now seeing how intrusive Big Government Nannyism really is.

State agencies operating under various names such as Child Protective Services (CPS) have been assigned the task of protecting kids from abuse or neglect by any adults, especially by their own parents. A new study casts doubt on the value of CPS.

Child Protective Services, which rushes into action based on anonymous tips, investigated more than three million cases of suspected child abuse in 2007. Researchers examined the records of 595 children nationwide alleged to be at similar high risk for abuse, and tracked them from ages 4 to 8.

The researchers concluded that CPS's intervention did little or nothing to improve the lives of the children, and there was no difference between children in the families CPS investigated or did not investigate.

More than 800,000 people are now listed on California's child abuse index. These listings are very hurtful to individuals since employers consult the list before hiring employees to work with children.
CPS puts people on this list from agency reports that are based on anonymous tips and suspicion, not proof. It's mighty easy for a malicious wife or ex-wife to allege child abuse as part of her game plan to get child custody or increased child support.
The issue in this case is the fact that there are no procedures, no standards, and no criteria for a wrongly accused person to get his name off the child abusers index. The Supreme Court is reviewing the Ninth Circuit ruling that Craig Humphries (whom a court pronounced innocent of all charges) had a "nightmarish encounter" with the California system, and "There is no effective procedure for Humphries to challenge this listing."
In 2006, Congress toyed with a plan to create a national child abuse registry. The plan was abandoned because of the unreliability of state lists and lack of due process. (blog.eagleforum.org)
The child abuse registry should not be confused with the sex offender registry, which lists only those who have been convicted of sex crimes. The child abuse registry puts men on the list who have never been proven guilty of anything or even charged with a crime, a punishment that is entirely contrary to our legal assumption of being innocent until proven guilty.
Humphries has been trying to clear his name for nine years. Congress should defund these abusive registries and we hope the Supreme Court declares them unconstitutional.

Taxpayers’ group reverses course, gives both proposals a thumbs down

    HARTFORD — A conservative watchdog group has changed its position on the two-question, $8.7 million referendum that the Hartford Jt. 1 School District is asking for on Nov. 2.

    Originally, the Hartford Area Taxpayers Association had come out as neutral on question 1, which is for $3.7 million and covers “critical” needs, including a new boiler system at Lincoln Elementary School, and against the second, $5 million question, which addresses “urgent” needs.

    But based on events at the Oct. 18 School District annual budget hearing, HATA has changed its position to oppose both questions.

    “The events at the budget hearing Monday, Oct 18, were shocking and eye-opening,” HATA spokesman Bill Savage said in a statement sent out Monday. “When the teachers’ union turns down a 2.75 percent raise in the worst economy in 70 years, you’ve got to say the teachers’ union is a major obstacle to keeping our schools running. Our K-8 school board and administrator don’t understand that the community cannot afford any more tax increases, the future is uncertain, the state has a $2.7 billion deficit, the school district is ‘five years away from bankruptcy’ according to (District Administrator Mark) Smits, and the school board is adding 4K to our list of responsibilities.”

Charter School Strongly Supported in West Bend

Charter school worth exploring in West Bend

    There is a proposal before the West Bend School Board to create a charter school in the district. It’s a proposal worthy of serious consideration.

    Charter schools are not new to Wisconsin. There are over 220 charter schools in the state. Charter schools are simply schools that are chartered – i.e. contracted – by a chartering authority to provide education with taxpayer dollars but are absolved of having to comply to many of the regulations that burden traditional public schools.

    Charter schools also, because they are not shackled by as many stringent state regulations, offer school districts the opportunity to be innovative. Charter schools in Wisconsin specialize in technology, arts, the environment, math, science, at-risk, direct instruction, virtual and any number of other specializations while still offering the core curriculum required for all public school kids.

And therein lies the beauty of charter schools. They are not mandatory. The district can choose not to renew the charter if they are not meeting expectations. If the educational benefits and financial benefits for Crossroads Academy don’t pan out, then cancel the charter and move on.

    Crossroads Academy seems to offer everything for which the district is striving. Educational flexibility. Relief from state mandates. Freedom from the confines of a unionized work force. Financial security. There are a few more details to gather, but all signs are that the School Board would provide an excellent service to the citizens of the district by exploring this opportunity.

Common Core Standards For Public Schools: A Bad Idea

CANDIDATE REID SNEDAKER RECEIVES HEARTY SUPPORT AT EAGLE FORUM EVENT

Richfield: Richfield Village Trustee Candidate Reid Snedaker was in the hot seat at the Richfield Elementary School Wednesday night sponsored by Eagle Forum of Wisconsin-Washington County Chapter. Randy Melchert, political analyst and past Wisconsin State Assembly candidate, moderated the event. During opening remarks, Snedaker described himself as a “very staunch conservative, both fiscally and socially.”

With the recall election on this coming Tuesday, Snedaker took advantage of the opportunity and shared views with an audience of nearly 80. Topics included the controversial Neighborhood Activity Center, sewer and water services for Richfield, and the Farmland Preservation Program. Incumbent Trustee Rock Brandford was unable to attend, citing a conflict in his schedule.

Snedaker said it was a difficult decision to run for village trustee. “Those who know me” would understand his strong determination for less government interference in the village he calls home. When asked when sewer and water should become part of the Village of Richfield infrastructure, Snedaker soundly stated “never,” and clarified that the village needs to remain a “country” entity. “It’s important that we protect your personal property rights - that you can use your property, in general, as you see fit,” Snedaker said.

Commenting on the touchy issue of the Neighborhood Activity Center, Snedaker says that it will create a major traffic hazard, but “more importantly, it is out of character for the Village of Richfield - that does not fit.”

One attendee stated after the forum that her family had moved to Richfield from West Allis because of the country appeal, and that her family is opposed to changes that would bring in strip malls, gas stations and other businesses that would transform the village area into a city atmosphere.

"Forums are a great way for candidates to address important issues for their constituents," stated Ginny Maziarka, Eagle Forum of Wisconsin, Washington County president. "We were grateful to have Randy Melchert attend as our moderator. The voters are hungry for information before the general election, and this is an excellent opportunity for candidates to share with voters why they should belong in office."

    Washington County Eagle Forum will host a forum for candidates for Richfield Board of Trustees at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8.

    The event will be held at the Richfield Elementary School, 3117 Holy Hill Road, Richfield.

    Randy Melchert, former state Assembly candidate and political analyst, will be moderating the forum. Melchert is a past legislative candidate and frequently appears on Wisconsin radio and television discussing civic affairs.

    The format will include an introductory statement by each candidate. Candidates will take turns answering pre-selected questions and will have time for a final statement.

    “Voters appreciate the opportunity to hear the viewpoints of the candidates running for the Village Board,” said Ginny Maziarka, president of Eagle Forum of Washington County.

    “This forum will educate voters on the role their village trustees play in the Richfield area, the philosophy of candidates and ensure that voters make an informed decision on Sept. 14.”

    While no questions from the floor will be taken, residents are encouraged to meet with candidates before or after the debate.

The Home Depot says AFA is lying - Here's proof we're not

In responding to those who are calling The Home Depot, company
representatives are telling AFA supporters that AFA is lying.

Here is proof we are telling the truth AND the facts accurately.

The Home Depot says AFA is lying. The Home Depot is telling people it is neutral in the homosexual culture war. This picture was taken inside an Ohio Home Depot store in June 2010. Promoting the homosexual lifestyle with corporate-produced signs is far from neutral. It is actvism.

The Home Depot says AFA is lying about its button and apron policy. They say a policy change in April prohibits employees from wearing any buttons or wearing company aprons outside of the store without company approval. This picture was taken at a gay pride parade in Boston in June 2010, three months after the "policy change." The apron is has emblems from the Human Rights Campaign and other homosexual activist organizations. Notice the company name has been rainbow colored.

The Home Depot says AFA is lying about it passing out company-logo items at gay pride parades. These photos shows Home Depot shopping carts filled with foam can coolers, cups, bags and other items bearing The Home Depot logo. These items were handed out along the Chicago Gay Pride Parade route by Home Depot employees.

The Home Depot says AFA is lying because the company doesn't sponsor or support gay pride events. This picture clearly shows The Home Depot is an officially recognized sponsor, only one of many the AFA has documentation for.

TAKE ACTION

2. Call your local store manager. Let the manager know that
you will not be shopping at The Home Depot until the company
stops supporting the homosexual agenda. You can find the

Not only does the new website lack patriotism, it contains a quote by a man who paved the way for a greater role for socialists and communists at the U.N. and the global "workers rights movement." The dark-gray themed website predominately displays a quote by C. Wilfred Jenks: "The common law is the will of mankind issuing from the life of the people." In the late 1930s and after WWII, Jenks was a leader of the "international law" movement and a long-time member of the United Nations' International Labor Organization, and author of a number of globalist tracts. While Ashcroft was at the Dept., the website displayed an American flag and the theme colors were red, white, and blue. Spectator, 7-19-10.

In the 2008 election, Barb Struck of Ozaukee County discovered that her deceased mother’s name was still on the polling list. In an attempt to have her mother’s name removed she discovered her mother voted in a previous election after she had passes away! What a surprise, her mother was always determined but this was beyond the pale! So Barb went about getting the name taken off the list and after communicating with the Government Accountability Board, the name was finally removed.

Now it’s your turn, do you know someone who may still be listed on the state voter registration list and shouldn’t be? There is an easy way to find out; this is how you do it:

There is a very valuable tool on the internet called “VPA” – Voter Public Access(https://vpa.wi.gov ). By entering a name and birthdate you can check the voting status of your mother, father, children, aunts, uncles, all of your family and friends, living, deceased, or those who have moved to another area. Who knows, you may discover that someone who died or moved out of state is still voting! If so, call your municipal clerk (Google: “wis municipal clerks” for name and contact information) and have the incorrect name removed from the list. If the “name” is in another municipality call the Government Accountability Board at 608-266-8005.

While you’re at it, why don’t you call your municipal clerk or GAB and ask them for all the names registered at your address? If there are incorrect names, ask them to have them removed.

IMPORTANT: In both of the above scenarios, if you have found an incorrect registration, you can ask if that “name” voted in any of the last elections. Or you can enter the name and birthdate into https://vpa.wi.gov , click on the name, scroll down to “View Your Voting History” and determine if this “name” voted in past elections.

If there was a vote, A FELONY has been committed. We encourage you to file a criminal complaint at your local district attorney’s office. Make sure your D.A. copies you, as well as Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen.

Right now, there are 70,000 names on the statewide voter registration list that have failed the required identification checks, but the Government Accountability Board is hesitant to take these names off because they might “disenfranchise” someone. Never mind the fact that these people could simply reregister if their names were removed in error. Names that no longer should be on the list are still “active” and can be used by those who do not play by the rules.

Time for parents to write an OPT OUT letter to protect their child

As families start thinking about heading back to school, parents should TAKE ACTION NOW and submit a written "Opt Out" statement to your school district so your child is not subjected to the moral depravity that Planned Parenthood has foisted upon the school districts of our state. Even though Planned Parenthood was capable of strong-arming their extreme Sex Ed bill (Assembly Bill 45) through our State Legislature earlier this year, school districts are NOT mandated to offer Sex Ed.

A simple written statement such as the following should be put on file now with your school district to protect your kids. If there ends up being a library full of kids working on alternative projects, so be it. It will send a message that the parents of your community are informed and will not allow Madison liberals with an agenda to tread on parental rights.

Under Chapter 118.019(4), Wisconsin Statutes, I would like to opt my child, _______________________, out of sex ed instruction. We are very offended by Planned Parenthood’s extreme agenda for Wisconsin’s minor children brought about by the passage of Assembly Bill 458.

Do your part to save West Bend from low-income housing in the DOWNTOWN district

NEXT MONDAY, 8/16/10, there will be a City Council meeting in which the aldermen will discuss the River Bluffs housing project destined to be placed in the middle of the downtown area next to the new Art Museum. The location of this low-income housing project is inappropriate for the downtown location; small business owners are begging for local residents to stand by them in asking the aldermen and Mayor Deiss to overturn this decision for an already-suffering downtown community.

Do your part.

State agrees to drop new rules governing issue ads

The state capitulated Tuesday in a lawsuit over new rules regulating campaign-style ads, agreeing they should not be enforced.

The Government Accountability Board - a panel of six retired judges in charge of running state elections - has been the subject of three lawsuits in the 10 days since the rules took effect.

The lawsuits were brought by nearly a dozen groups from across the political spectrum in two federal courts and the state Supreme Court.

The groups said those rules violated their First Amendment right to free speech.

U.S. District Judge William M. Conley will consider the proposed settlement Wednesday.

Effort behind Movement to Ensure Parents’ Rights to Raise their Children Continues to Grow

WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 9, 2010) – A Constitutional Amendment to protect the parent-child relationship introduced by U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Michigan, has reached 140 co-sponsors in the House.

“More and more members of Congress understand the threat to the parent-child relationship by government and foreign organizations,” Hoekstra said. “I am encouraged that we are nearly half-way to the number of votes necessary for passing the bill, and we will continue to press forward until we reach our goal.”

The Parents’ Rights Amendment would state explicitly in the U.S. Constitution that parents have the right to raise their children as they see fit while protecting against abuse and neglect. Such threats to the parent-child relationship include potential U.S. ratification of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Two of the bill’s three most recent cosponsors –Rep. Charles Djou (R-HI) and Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA) – are new to Congress, having won special election races in May and June, respectively. Each signed on to the measure less than 60 days after taking office.

“The trend we’ve seen in the last few weeks is that the American people are already electing lawmakers who support parents’ rights,” says constitutional lawyer and ParentalRights.org president Michael Farris, who helped draft the amendment. “I am hopeful we will see this trend continue through November.”

Intended to protect families from undue government intrusion while continuing protections of children from abuse and neglect, the proposed amendment says:

SECTION ONE: The liberty of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children is a fundamental right.

SECTION TWO: Neither the United States nor any state shall infringe upon this right without demonstrating that its governmental interest as applied to the person is of the highest order and not otherwise served.

SECTION THREE: No treaty may be adopted, nor shall any source of international law be employed to supersede, modify, interpret, or apply to the rights guaranteed by this article.
